What is Phio?
Phio is an innovative digital assessment tool which allows patients to access support for their condition 24/7. Designed by expert physiotherapists and underpinned by the latest clinical guidelines Phio is an instantly available, digital consultation. It uses efficient clinical decision trees to accurately assess and signpost patients to appropriate care pathways. Phio will ask questions about you and your symptoms then, based on your responses, signpost you to the most appropriate level of care, for example face to face physiotherapy, extended scope physiotherapy or telephone/remote management.
If your condition is not suitable for the Physiotherapy service, or there are any clinical concerns, these will be detected by your responses and Phio will signpost you accordingly to the most appropriate service. For peace of mind all assessments are reviewed by a physiotherapist to ensure the correct decision has been made.
Why have I been asked to use Phio?
Using Phio will ensure patients’ necessary information is captured all in one place, allowing for efficient signposting to the best suitable care. It supports them to begin their management in the right pathway from the beginning, giving them more control and ownership of their health and recovery.
How does Phio help me?
Around 30% of the population suffer with an MSK (musculoskeletal – muscle, bone or joint) condition. Phio offers a modern, simple yet highly effective solution for these patients providing a quick and accessible tool to advise and guide on to the required pathway of care.
Through state of the art technology and questions, which are designed around the local service, Phio offers a route to fast tracked patient care. Therefore providing less need for numerous face to face assessments to determine who the right clinician is to help. This is particularly convenient for those with busy lives, time constraints and/or in physical pain who can access the tool from the comfort of their own homes.
Why do I have to complete it?
Phio is not mandated to be used. However by completing Phio patients’ care providers are sufficiently equipped with the necessary information they require, in far more detail than possible in a standard referral, to be able to signpost patients to the most suitable care. Our vision for patient care is geared around technology and streamlining the patient journey and Phio allows us to do this.
What happens after I complete it?
Our admin team will download the referral and register this with our Patient Administration System. Depending on the outcome of the clinical triage these could either be to book a Physioline appointment; refer onto a physiotherapy provider or for further clinical review.
How long will it take to complete?
Although a typical assessment takes approximately 10-15 minutes, completion time largely depends on the patient as different elements of their health will need to be considered such as the number of body parts affected, complexity of the condition and past medical history.
What if I do not want to self-refer using Phio?
There are still other options available to seek help for an MSK condition in the event of not completing Phio online self referral. Traditional methods such as the following can be considered:
- Booking an appointment with your GP
- Seeking advice from your local pharmacy
- Self-management via our Circle website
- Private treatment
- Paper self-referral
