NHS 111 is a service, introduced to make it easier for you to access local NHS healthcare services. You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency. It’s a fast way to get the right help, whatever the time. The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and calls are free from both landline and mobile phones.
When should NHS 111 be used?
When fast medical help is needed, but it’s not a 999 emergency
When a caller doesn’t know who to call for medical help or doesn’t have a GP
When the caller thinks they need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service
When health information, reassurance and advice is required
Remember for immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.
The following conditions are considered potentially life-threatening:
Loss of consciousness
Severe chest pain
Severe breathing difficulty
Heavy bleeding
Fitting/convulsions
Severe allergic reactions
Any symptoms of a stroke
